Star’s uncle declares nephew can be Dockers’ saviour

While there is no official word on if and when Richmond premiership star Shai Bolton will request a trade home to WA, one of his family members has weighed in to the conversation.
Bolton’s uncle, Allistair Pickett, who is a WAFL legend, played for Subiaco and won two Sandover medals and has made the call on where he believes his nephew is best fit.
And Pickett is convinced Bolton would be the perfect fit for Fremantle, if a trade can get done.

Bolton is contracted until the end of 2028, but there are suggestions that he could request a trade back to his home state, as he awaits the arrival of his second child.
“100 per cent (I think he could be the difference at Fremantle),” Pickett said on SEN Radio on Thursday.

“So, I think it’s only right that he goes to Freo. I think Fremantle would be a good fit for him.
“I know (Michael) Walters is getting on … so Bolton going into that side next year would be a perfect fit for them.”
Pickett is even convinced Bolton could be the puzzle piece the Dockers require to take them to the promised land – a maiden premiership.
“If they’re good enough to play finals next year, he might be the icing on the cake for them. I think that would change history forever for Fremantle supporters,” he said.
“I think he’s a new Cyril Rioli. I think he’s something special. He just has that class in the forward line.”
But for Pickett, who still resides in WA, he’d just be happy if Bolton could return home, even if it meant playing for the Eagles.
“But it’d be good to see him come over (to Perth for either club) and play some really good footy,” he said.
Bolton is a two-time premiership player, as well as a 2022 All-Australian.
